About the saltbloom project

Who We Are

Why It Matters

Who We Are

the saltbloom project is a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to protecting seagrass meadows and the marine ecosystems they support. Founded and run by high school student and ocean ambassador Molly Dixon, saltbloom blends science, storytelling, and action to raise awareness about one of the ocean’s most vital and overlooked habitats.

We believe in accessible education, community involvement, and the power of young people to lead meaningful environmental change.

What We Do

Why It Matters

Who We Are

We focus on creative, local solutions to protect and restore seagrass ecosystems:

  • Educating communities through zines, school programs, and public outreach
  • Advocating for simple practices like using propeller guards and reducing fertilizer runoff
  • Partnering with local groups to support restoration and responsible recreation

Our work begins in the Bay Area, but our message travels wherever the tides reach.

Why It Matters

Why It Matters

Why It Matters

Seagrass meadows are climate heroes. They clean water, store carbon, protect shorelines, and support biodiversity, yet they’re disappearing fast. Pollution, careless boating, and climate change are putting them at risk.

We’re here to protect these underwater meadows before they vanish. Because when seagrass thrives, oceans thrives, and so do we.
